I was really excited for this weekend for many reasons. The main one though? The new Funchaser vehicle got wrapped and it was going to have its weekend debut. I was PUMPED. It was also Father’s Day, and I love my dad a lot but….. I was way more excited for the new car. Sorry, Dad. Love ya lots.
Okay let’s dive in.
Saturday
My first weekend with the new Funchaser Subaru started off with a trip out of town. We were headed to Huble Homestead for their pancake breakfast!
I was really excited because 1. I was taking the Subaru out on its first roady and 2. I was going to Huble Homestead!
Huble Homestead was celebrating Father’s Day with Pancake Breakfasts and sundaes all day for four days! They also had lots of fun activities going on as well for the whole family to enjoy. I was in for a treat.
I met a few families who were there, ready to get pancakes and explore the homestead.
The employees told me what they had going on for the weekend and what they are doing over the summer. If you want to check out the Homestead, they’re open daily from 10-5! They have self-guided and guided tours and scavenger hunts! There’s lots of fun to have out there!
When I was out there, I made a new best friend; Oliver was showing me a bunch of the animal tracks he and his family were discovering on their scavenger hunt. He was really excited to show me all of the neat things he was finding!
I had to say goodbye to Oliver and his family, and make my way back to town.
When I got to the highway, I turned right instead of left.
Yes, I know. That is not the way back to town.
I wanted to get a picture of something first.
My dad and I have endless conversations about geography, so I wanted to get a picture of the arctic divide.
Yup, if you didn’t know, the Arctic Divide is less than an hour away from Prince George. Which is kinda crazy thinking that all the water north of the divide, flows into the Arctic Ocean.
Okay, nerd moment over.
I grabbed a quick picture of the sign and then made my way into town. Once I got into town, I went over to the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum.
I ran into Nadine and she explained to me how they are planning on reopening. When I was there, you could only walk through the park. But starting Wednesday, some of the buildings and train cars will be open! Ultimately, if you can enter and exit through separate doors, they will open. Which is a fair amount!
I discovered that there is a piece of the old Cameron Street Bridge in the park! I got really excited because that was my FAVOURITE bridge when I was a kid, and when my parents drove me to daycare, I always wanted to go over that bridge.
I have to say, it was really cool walking through the park and noticing the displays along the path ways. I can’t wait to go back!
To end the day, I headed up to Art Knapps for their 40th Anniversary Sale. It was pretty busy and it was raining so hard! It was crazy! They just got a bunch of tropical plants in and I am so excited to take a closer look at them!
I then made my way back to the station… it was *low-key* sketchy because it was raining so hard the whole way down. But I made it back safe and sound, and I was really excited for my next day of Funchasing.
Sunday
I was really excited for today. It was the Father’s Day COVID Cruise for a Cause hosted by Cruisin’ Classics. I was so pumped. My sister was tagging along (okay… I kind of told her she had to come with me) for the parade and we were both looking forward to seeing some really nice looking cars.
We got to the CN Centre parking lot just after noon and cars were already showing up.
It was crazy. More and more cars kept showing up and the parking lot got fuller and fuller by the minute. Liv and I were in awe with some of the cars that were coming in.
I took pictures, we spoke to some people, and ran into some former teachers. It was great!
Then the parade started. It took 30 minutes for all of the cars to get out of the parking lot! That is how big it was!
The Funchaser was the very last car of the parade, so we were a little behind everyone else, but in no time, we caught up to the parade.
I was not expecting so many people to be lined up along the streets of Prince George. It was crazy! Olivia and I were smiling and waving the whole time. It was so cool to see so many people out to enjoy the cars.
We drove everywhere! And people were everywhere! I have to say, the weather was perfect for today. It could not get any better.
One of my favourite parts was driving past the Stadium and seeing my dad and grandpa watching. My dad later told me that my grandpa had an absolute blast and was naming car models from half a block away. That was the highlight for me by far!
A big thank you to Cruisin’ Classics for organizing this event! Seeing everyone’s smiles and excitement was really awesome. Hope this becomes a yearly thing!!
I’m going to share some Facebook posts of pictures that local photographers grabbed of the parade at different points in the city. They all got some really cool shots!
