It was hard not to notice that something was happening at the Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre, as the decorations clearly told you there was something important. The decorations of blue and white where to symbolize the Alzheimer Society. For today was a day of remembrance and celebration of those who have and fought the disease. The family of honour was hard to miss in matching bright green shirts they stood out proudly. Their chests declaring stating, granddaughter, son, daughter-in-law and many other significant family members, showing how they were truly Granddads Army. They started the walk off with speeches given by Dawn Hemingway, Nancy Jokinen, His Honour Mayor Lyn Hall, Dr.Ranjana Bird, Leanne Jones and the Investors Group team captain, Trevor Lipinski. The most touching speech was that done by the honouree Jim Ellerton and his wife Lou. Shortly after the photo ops, everyone moved up to the track, where once the cutting of the ribbon took place, everyone started on the ceremonious walk. As everyone walked around the track there was family members catching up, children running around and general excitement. Shortly after the walk everyone transferred back to the lobby for cake, prizes and the closing comments. For more information please go here to their website.
