I have had A LOT of great weekends. And this one definitely cracks the top 5! Why? Well you’ll have to read and find out 😉
I was PUMPED for this weekend!
The weather was supposed to be nice, the Most EGGcellent Cruise was going on, and it was Easter, which meant my mom was making some good food!
I was also entering the weekend a little bit relieved because I did really well on a school presentation that I was stressing about, so a ton of weight was off my shoulders!
Okay, lets get into this weekend. It was a good one.
Saturday
Saturday. The day I have been so exicted for for well over a week!
We were taking part in The Most EGGcellent Cruise and seeing how well the other two cruises have done this year, I couldn’t wait to interact with people and have a day jam packed with fun.
That’s one thing with COVID. I miss interacting with people. I miss going up to people, talking to them, hugging them, and seeing their smiles. I miss people’s smiles. So being able to interact with the community as we’re all having fun together was making me so excited.
I started off the day with packing up a ton of gear, the tent, and the flags. I successfully got it all into the FunChaser and then I was on my way up to College Heights to set up at one of the stations.
The station I was helping set up at was being run by the amazing volunteers from the Car Parades! It was so nice seeing a bunch of them again!
We set up the tent, the brand new flags, and I gave out a bunch of SunRype and swag for them to hand out. It was great!
Once that was all set up, and the cruise officially started, I made it my mission to get as many adventures on the check list, checked off.
It was going to be a long day, but I was excited to see people, have fun, and cruise around the city I love.
My first stop was at the Westwood Church.
You had to scramble the words that were scattered throughout the parking lot to continue, and once you did that, you were given chips and the first ~100 people were also given a teddy bear! How cool is that?
The volunteers working there were pretty excited to see me, and I was excited to see them!
There were some kids helping out too, and surprise, surprise, I knew a few of them!
I coached them years ago in speed skating. Let me tell you. I felt pretty old finding out that one of them is already in high school!
After the Westwood Church stop, I made my way over to Pine Centre Mall. Should I have stoppped at Ginter’s first? Yeah, probably.
I drove around the mall trying to find Waldo! They were wandering somewhere and I NEEDED to get a socially distant selfie.
After driving ALL the way around the parking lot and mall itself, I finally found Waldo.
We got a picture, and then the coolest thing happened.
A family from skating pulled up and said hi! I was SO excited to see them!
After a quick chat, I made my way over to the Roll-A-Dome to get a picture with the Easter Bunny!
I then made my way over to the Ice Cream Express and got some cotton candy ice cream, my absolute favourite!
There were SO MANY people grabbing ice cream, too! Tons of smiles and laughter. It was great. I was bouncing off the walls excited.
After enjoying my cotton candy ice cream, I made my way over to Claxton to the Central Fellowship Church to get a picture of the poster, and I even got candy!
I was having an absolute BLAST!
I made my way dowtown to Parkwood Mall to get a picture with Premium Label Outlet. They were set up in the parking lot, and turns out my friend was behind me in line! I didn’t find out until after, but thought that was kind of cool.
Since I was downtown, I made my way over to Duchess Park (Park) to find the Moose!
You might be wondering why I said Park twice…
Ha, well because I am a proud Duchess Park Secondary School graduate, we always called it Duchess Park Park, so the habit has always stuck. Is it the proper name? No. But I’m 99% sure people know what I mean when I say that!
After getting a picture with the Moose and chatting with the lovely ladies from the BCNE, I made my way over to the Canada Games Plaza to find Waldo! But before I was about to leave Duchess Park (Park), I saw one of my athletes from Special Olympics, Michael! We were both pretty excited to see each other. I also saw another one of my former track rascals, Britta, but I didn’t realize it was her until after. So Britta, if you are seeing this, I am sorry I did not say hi!!
I’m starting to realize how many people I 1. saw on Saturday and 2. How many people I know. Gosh it’s a lot!
When I made my way to the Plaza, I succesfully found Waldo!! Yayyyyyyyy!
There were a lot of other people chasing Waldo down too. It was pretty funny!
While I was downtown, I was also searching for statues to get a selfie with. I ended up getting two with Spirit Bears, and one with the Terry Fox Statue.
It was a bit of a struggle to get to Terry because of all the construction equipment, but I got there!
There was ANOTHER Waldo wondering downtown, so I made it my mission to find that one as soon as possible.
Which I did. Score!
I cruised my way over to Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park to find the shark.
This adventure really took you everywhere!
I found the shark, and then had to rush (safely of course) back up to College Heights to drop off some SunRype.
I looked at the time and was a little worried if I was going to get all of the adventures checked off. I may or may not have spent a little too much time talking with people…
Which for me, was totally fine! That’s one of my favourite parts about this job! I get to meet SO MANY cool people, and make tons of new friends! It’s the best.
When I was up in College Heights, you’d think I would have made my way up to the Best Western Hotel to check off another adventure, but I failed to use common sense once again. *face palm*
I made my way up University Hill AND I FORGOT TO TURN INTO THE UNIVERSITY TO CHECK ANOTHER ADVENTURE OFF!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
One thing I was learning throughout the day was that it was hard completing the adventure solo. So many things running through my mind that I kept forgetting where to go! But nonetheless, I was having an absolute blast.
I made my way to Moore’s Meadow to get a picture with the fox. I climbed the hill, grabbed a socially distant selfie with the fox (while I was out of breath), and made my way back to the car.
One thing that was happening during the day was that people were getting pictures of me and the car! It was SO COOL! It made me really really happy.
I then made my way up to the Hart to get a bunch of adventures checked off there. And there were a lot.
First of all, while I was driving along Foothills and listening to the River, I did the only appropriate thing to do when Driver’s License was playing. Pretend I’m absolutely heartbroken and scream the lyrics in the car. It’s the only way one should listen to that song.
Good times.
When I made it up to the Hart, I stopped at NC Ron’s Towing’s station.
It was set up in the Hart Mall Parking Lot and it was EPIC. They had a balloon arch, easter displays, and some big trucks. It was pretty cool! They were also handing out a ton of candy too, which was awesome. While I was driving through, this random guy ran up in front of me… it was kind of weird.
JUST KIDDING!
It was Dave Horton, the main organizer. I was actually thinking I wasn’t going to see him at all that day, but I did!
Once I drove through the station, we met up and chatted quickly about the event. We were both having a blast and so happy to see all these people taking part.
We grabbed a selfie and then we both had to get going.
I made my way to Cpl. Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park to get a picture with the other moose, and then to Can Crane Specialists to get a selfie with the big heart!
I drove down to Northern Lights Estate Winery to meet up with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC, and then ran out of time. It was 4 o’clock by the time I left the winery parking lot.
Was I a little bummed that I didn’t get everything? Yes. I was. But I was also SO happy about the day. I had an absolute blast.
I made my way back up to College Heights to help take down the station, and then spent some time talking with the Car Parade Volunteers. It was nice catching up with them!
After everything was taken down, I was HUNGRY. So I stopped by Save-On and grabbed a sandwich. This is important to mention because when I was leaving the parking lot, Kelli, our General Sales Manager, was driving in to the lot. We waved and quickly chatted before I made my way back to the station. Seeing her definitely put the cherry on top of my super fun day!
Sunday
After Saturday, I was EXHAUSTED!
But there was fun to be had in Prince George on this Easter Sunday, and I was going to chase it!
However, I needed breakfast first.
I stopped by my parents house and had some delicious eggs benny, rösti, and sausages. It was nice having Easter Sunday Breakfast with them!
That fuelled me for the day.
My day started by cleaning out the FunChaser… I was a little tired the day before and didn’t take anything out!
Once that was all done, I made my way back to Duchess Park (Park). I got word the day before that the Easter Bunny was going to show up!
And sure enough, he did!
It was SO cool seeing all the kids get excited that the Easter Bunny showed up! Made me miss being a kid…
After that, I made my way over to the Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum.
They were open, the weather was GORGEOUS, so I knew it would be a perfect day to visit!
When I got there, I chatted with Alisha about everything that was going on at the museum and all the plans that they have. It’s pretty exciting, so stay tuned!
I walked around the park and enjoyed the gorgeous weather.
I really pretended to be a kid while walking around.
I got pictures with all of the cut outs that are scattered throughout the museum, lied on the grass to inspect all of the painted rocks (which are super cool by the way), and enjoyed the weather while I was having fun. It was great!
One of my favourite parts about the museum is that there is a piece of the Cameron Street Bridge on display. When I was younger, that was my favourite bridge. My daycare was in North Nechako, so everyday, we would have to drive over the Nechako River. Little 3 year old me would BEG my parents to go over that bridge. And if we went over the other bridge, I would look over to the right, sad, because we weren’t driving over my bridge. I was heartbroken when they closed it and tore it down. So knowing that there is a piece of it at the museum, makes the three year old in me very happy!
When I was leaving the museum, you’re never going to guess who drove by. Kelli! She was busy doing a scavenger hunt, so we couldn’t talk, but we waved! I was pretty excited to see her again over the weekend!
When I was about to leave, I ran into some friends, and quickly chatted with them. It was nice seeing them because it had been awhile since I saw them! I was seeing everyone this weekend!
I was debating if I wanted to call it a day after the museum. But I decided to continue chasing the fun, and made my way up to the Spruce Kings Show Home.
When I got there, there was a line of people waiting to get in! Thankfully, the sun was shining, so the wait didn’t feel very long!
I decided that it was a ‘take a silly picture in every mirror in the house’ kind of day. I always have fun when I’m there! And, the people who are working are so nice and super fun to talk to!
After that, I drove around town for a little bit and decided that I was going to get a Passion Ice Tea Lemonade with Light Ice (very important part of the order), at Starbucks.
I drove up to the window, and to my surprise, the person in front of me paid for my drink!! Like WHAT?!?! Literally made my day and weekend.
I was SO excited. Of course, I paid it forward, but had a HUGE smile on my face. Those type of gestures are the best.
To the person that paid for my drink, THANK YOU!! You’re the best!
Also, my friend Zach was working the window, so it was nice to see him too!
And that was my weekend. I had A TON of fun!
See ya next weekend PG!
Sylvia xx
