What a week and what a weekend! I had lots of fun checking out all of the fun events that were going on in town. From speed skating meets to gaming, there was fun for everyone!
(Also, I do know this blog is coming a week late, but I knew if I didn’t write it, it was going to bug me for forever! I’m sorry it’s late!!!)
Saturday
I woke up this morning knowing that I was going to see a lot of people I hadn’t seen in a VERY long time.
As mentioned in last week’s blog, I used to speed skate. Over the 10 years of skating, I have met so many people and many of them were going to be at the meet this weekend. I WAS PUMPED!
I got to work, got everything I needed, and then I headed off to Kin 1 Arena (one of my favourite places town.) I know for a fact that having snacks at a speed skating meet is ESSENTIAL, so I brought some SunRype bars with me. Everyone really enjoyed them!
It was so nice seeing people who I hadn’t seen in a long time! I got to see my former speed skating coach, Mama G, who I hadn’t seen in almost 2 years, and so many other friends I hadn’t seen in awhile.
Mama G! <3
I watched some (okay, a lot of) skating, saw SO MANY people that I hadn’t seen in a long time and all in all, I had a great time. The rink, especially Kin 1, is a place in town where I just enjoying being in; and when I get to see some of my favourite people, in my favourite place, I am EXTREMELY happy!
I popped by Kin 2 to watch a bit of the hockey tournament that was going on and then I headed up to Immaculate Conception to check out their craft fair!
I was a little late getting into IC because I had to call Afarin and tell her that instead of wearing onion socks, my family wears vinegar socks when we’re sick. Trust me, it works!
(Side note: after talking to Afarin about that on her show, my cousin texted me “vinegar socks” because, you know, he heard me on the radio. I laughed a lot after that!)
I got to the craft fair, and I had a blast! After going to so many craft fairs, I’ve started to become familiar with so many vendors and now we’ve just become friends. When we see each other, we both get excited. It’s great. I love it!
I ran into some more people that I knew (surprised?) and spoke to lots of really nice vendors!
Honesty time: I’m glad I don’t bring money with me to all the craft fairs I go to because by now, I’d be #broke. There are so many neat things at all of them!
Then, I headed to the Columbus Centre to check out their craft fair. It was very small, but there were some really neat hand crafted goods!
It was cold and miserable and I knew that there was a special group of people training for the upcoming snowshoeing season in the miserable weather. I stopped by Lac des Bois to say hi to the Special Olympics athletes, and help them fuel up with some SunRype. Those athletes ALWAYS make my day! 🙂
After hanging out with the Special O athletes for a bit, I ended the day back at Kin 1 to watch some more speed skating!
Sunday
Would you be surprised if I told you that I started the day off at Kin 1… No? Thought so.
ANYWAYS, I went back to the rink to check out speed skating and hockey. Turns out, I had made it just in time to watch the gold medal game for the hockey tournament! Perfect timing, I’d say! Terrace was up against Fort St. John, and I still don’t know who won! I had to get to my next event. So… if you know who won, let me know 😉
I then made my way over to Books and Company for the launch of ‘In My Own Moccasins,’ a memoir written by Helen Knott, a highly respected Indigenous author. When I got there, I found out that it had been cancelled. 🙁 Hopefully, she will reschedule in the future.
But, when I was there, I discovered a group of people doing needle felting! That was funto watch!
After spending some time at Books and Company, I made my way over to Wonderland Games to see what was going on there.
I’ll be honest. The only gaming I do is my plant game, paper.io, and once in a blue moon, Webkinz (yes, I still go on sometimes). And that’s online gaming. When it comes to real life gaming, I only play cards and Bananagrams. So, I was in for a real treat when I got to Wonderland.
Going on when I got there, was a Pokémon tournament. I grabbed some pictures, talked for a tiny bit and then went and checked out the other games going on in the store.
***Disclaimer: I can’t remember the game Jon and Dave were playing but it was really cool!
I spent a good 40 minutes talking to Jon and Dave about the game they were playing. It was crazy. Measuring tapes were being used, a dozen dice would be rolled, figurines were being killed, and they took the time to answer all my questions.
I got there at around 3:30; they had started playing at 11. I was in awe that they could play for that long and not get bored!
I was glad I went to check out Wonderland. I’ll definitely be back to check out all the other games that will be going on there!
Sorry for the late blog everyone!
