It is spring. My question for Mother Nature is WHY are we getting bizzare white out snowstorms and the sunshine minutes apart from each other.
I don’t know about you, but I just want to be able to enjoy the sunshine without gettig cold! Ugh!
Hopefully the nice weather will be back soon and for a looooooong time!
Okay let’s get into this weekend.
Saturday
I started the day out at Studio 2880 for their potery sale!
I’ve said it before, and I will say it again- we have so many talented artists and artisans in this city!
I even got to meet Ayla Davidson- I bought a mug she made last week!!
I looked at all the pottery, art, and jewelry for a bit, chatted with vendors and bumped into some friends, and then made my way over to Caledonia Nordic.
The craziest thing was happening…
Three guys (Martin, Tyson, and Josh) were skiing for 24 hours as a fundraiser for the Ski School Program at the club.
It costs about $1000 for a class to do a field trip at Caledonia Nordic, and not everyone can afford that.
The boys wanted to give back and help fund classes to be able to try out cross-country skiing.
I’ve seen first hand how impactful these type of experiences are for City of PG kids. I coach an after school program a few times a week and the excitment on the kids’ faces when they tell me that they’re going on a field trip to go skiing is amazing. It makes me excited for them!
They love it, and it gives them the oppurtunity to try something new, that they might have never had the chance to try.
So, I went out to Caledonia Nordic to watch the start of it!
Lots of family, coaches, and volunteers were there to make sure that everything ran smoothly and to offer support!
I still can’t wrap my head around the idea of skiing for 24 hours. That takes some serious guts and commitment.
And those boys definitely showed that.
After watching the start, I quickly stopped my Wilkins Regional Park.
I just wanted to grab a picture and share how excited I am for it to be summer and for the park to be open again!
I can’t wait!!
Then I drove back into town.
I love the drive from Miworth into town. It’s relaxing and calming, and driving by the river always makes me feel better.
When I made it back onto Foothills, I drove up University Way and all the way down to College Heights. I was going to pop by the Hospice Resale Store!
The last time I was there, I don’t even think I was the FunChaser. So it was well over 18 months ago.
I walked in, and
WOW.
There’s TONS of stuff in there!
I need to go back and do some digging, because I know for sure, I will find some gems!
They also have amazing sales going on every week, so you will definitely want to check out their social media pages for what they have on sale!
I chatted with a friend for a little bit, and then made my way down to the Frozen Paddle.
The Frozen Paddle teamed up with the Timberwolves Student-Athlete Society for MVP of the Month. The MVP is Brody Dery and for every pint sold over the weekend, $2 was going to be donated to help support Brody for his treatments and travels as he is battling Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
So of course, I had to get a London Fog Pint!
Lots of people were coming in to buy pints throughout the whole weekend, which is super exciting!
I chatted with Wes, one of the owners, for a bit and then made my way back to the station.
I had ice cream to eat, prep to do, and homework to finish!
Sunday
Again, Sunday wasn’t as busy. My main focus was to get the end of the 24 hour ski, which I did!
There were quite a few people out skiing at Caledonia Nordic that day, and many stopped to see the boys finish.
24 hours.
CRAZY!
My sister was there, and a lot of kids I’ve coached. It was nice running into everyone! (Except for Liv. Ha just kidding, I love my sister!!)
While we were waiting, we were playing with bubble wands, laughing, and just having a good time!
And then they came!
The boys had done it. They skied for 24 hours.
And as I’m writing this, almost $7000 has been raised for ski school!
How awesome is that?!?
That is going to go a long way!
After, I drove around for a bit, questioned what the weather was doing because it was snowing SO MUCH, and then I headed back to the station.
It was a quiet Sunday, but a pretty heart warming one!
I am so excited for this coming Saturday! I’ll be taking part in the EGGcellent Cruise and I’ll be cruising all over town! Stay tuned for more!!
But for now, I’m going to try and complete this scavenger hunt from the Prince George Library that I am way too old to actually take part in. But hey, I’m a 5 year old at heart!
See ya later!
