Hey hey hey! I hope you all had a great week! Here’s what I did on Saturday! It was MEGATHON day AND it was Mike Benny Day! I was really looking forward to hearing Mike on the radio again.
Okay lets start!
Saturday
The day started off by popping by Canadian Tire and the YMCA to grab some pictures and chat with some of the people at the Y who were there for MEGATHON!
I chatted with Lauren for a bit and talked about the overall day and the weather… it was so windy!
After, I made my way to the station for MEGATHON.
March 13th was also another special day at the station. It was Mike Benny Day!
If you didn’t hear, we lost Mike last month to cancer. He had been off since the end of August of 2019.
Throughout the day, it was really nice hearing his voice on air. I missed it! Like many people in Prince George, my mornings would often start with the River Wake Up as I got ready for school and drove to school. I grew up listening to Mike and would often interact with the show. I remember when I was younger, I would desperately want to call in but 1. I was a little too nervous and 2. I didn’t have my own phone. Eventually, I would start texting in and interact with the show. It was awesome.
Hearing his laugh and Mike-isms was super nice and brought a smile to my face. He will surely be missed.
The first challenge we did for the MEGATHON Get Active Challenge was 50 Jumping Jacks.
And man.
50 Jumping Jacks is TOUGH. My leg muscles were in ✨pain✨
Then, we went over to zumba.
I remember doing zumba last year, and it was a blast, and doing it virtual this year was fun too! You can feel Sandra’s energy even through a screen. She is so awesome!
After zumba, I quickly popped by Tim Hortons and grabbed some breakfast sandwiches to have for Mike. Because you know, breakfast sandwiches are a food group 😉
After eating, I headed up to Art Knapp for their Thrifting for Hope event! They had the annual greenhouse full of great finds for HOPE International.
It was great catching up with everyone too! The Van Hage family is like another family to me and getting to catch up with almost everyone was super nice!
After Art Knapps, and successfully leaving the building without buying a plant (mom I hope you’re proud), I made my way back into town.
I stopped by Active Body Nutrition and chatted with Curtis and Stephanie from the Y for a bit. I even got to walk Daisy, Stephanie’s dog, which got another challenge checked off the checklist!
After spending some time there, I made my way back to the station.
Logan and I were determined to get as many challenges checked off the checklist as possible, so that’s what we did!
We played golf in the station (yes, golf) and did hopscotch in the parking lot. Then, we had to drive around town to complete the rest.
We visited Mr. PG, which was also Logan’s first time seeing the iconic statue!
I then struggled to get out of the playhouse parking lot because of all of the construction that’s going on, but successfully made my way out!
We played snow soccer, hide and seek, grounders, made a snowman with the very little snow we could find, jumped rope and played on playground.
It was tons of fun acting like a kids again! We both definitely had a blast running around and trying not to get out feet covered in water.
And this was me at the end of the day. Absolutely exhausted. I need to start working out again…
Before I went home, I had to make a stop at Save-On-Foods in Spruceland. They set up a little Mike Benny Day display with all of your breakfast sandwich needs, which was super awesome! Warmed my heart seeing that, and it made everyone at the station really excited too!
Sunday
I had an office day on Sunday so I wasn’t out and about. Had some stuff I had to get done at my desk. BUT I was extremely disappointed with the weather. It was nice and sunny and then boom. It was SNOWING LIKE CRAZY!?!?!? AGH! I even wore my sunglasses to work!😥
See ya next weekend PG! I’m officially on school spring break so I will be catching up on some 😴
Sylvia xx
