Here at the station, we held our 2nd Annual Miracle on Third, on December 12th! This was my first time participating in it and I had an absolute blast being apart of this amazing day!
This year, we were collecting monetary, food, and craft supplies for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC. A few of my friends have volunteered for this amazing organization, and I have heard so many great stories from them, so I was really excited to be apart of this day!
The day officially started at 7AM, but I wasn’t there until 10 because I had to write an exam in the morning. (First semester of uni, official done!)
When I got there, it was snowing like crazy, but spirits were high and everyone was having a blast!
Every hour, we had amazing sponsors that donated great prized for the hourly draws that were happening for everyone who donated to Miracle on Third. It was great seeing the community come together, on a day like Miracle on Third.
Our sign team was THE BEST. Melinda had some wicked sign skills going on and Santa made a special appearance and he did not disappoint, dancing on the sidewalk!
I ran around, took pictures and ate a few burgers (if you know me, you know that I could never say no to a burger). It was so much fun seeing all of my amazing co-workers hanging out outside, all for an amazing cause.
Now as the FunChaser, I can get away with pretending to be a kid because I am having FUN. So, at one point, I made a snowman with one of the sponsor’s daughter. IT WAS GREAT! The snow was perfect and the two of us were having a blast. Unfortunately, she had to leave before we could finish it, but with some help from Save-on and BBBS, I was able to finish the snowman. It was great! I realized after that that when I grow up (if I grow up), that I 100% need a job that will allow me to release my inner child.
During Miracle on Third, there was some maintenance being done along Third. We were worried because the entrance to the building and the parking lot were going to be blocked. But, you’re not going to believe it. They skipped the block where we were to do it the next day, so that they didn’t interfere. We were so thankful that they did that!
Later on in the day, a Little Sister came to get interviewed. Her name is Zoe. A few years ago, I coached Zoe in speed skating and this past summer, I tutored her in French! So I know Zoe pretty well, and I was really excited to see her!
As she was getting interviewed on the radio, I was chit chatting with her mom, and then all of a sudden, I was given the duty to give her a tour of the station! Zoe and her mom were super excited!
As we toured, I introduced Zoe to everyone and she was not shy with asking questions. My favourite part (and I think hers too) is when Ethan let Zoe record some stuff. She just got to talk, and let me tell you: she’s really good at it!
After our tour, they were doing the news live on Miracle on Third and we all got to watch. It was cool!
After the news, was the dreaded clean up. It was all hands on deck to get everything packed up and inside. But, everything was SOAKING wet because of the snow! Everything eventually dried up, and was put away.
I had a blast doing Miracle on Third and am really grateful to be apart of such an amazing company with great coworkers!
