Hellooooo everyone! Wow, what a busy week and a busy weekend! I had loads of fun this weekend going to all the different craft fairs and exploring a new area east of town! Let’s begin!
Saturday
Fun fact for y’all: there were 6 different craft fairs and markets happening in Prince George on Saturday. SIX!!!! That’s crazy!
I started the weekend at the Farmers’ Market. I hadn’t been down there since Fallfest, and I was due for a visit! (And I needed some Col Juice. ARE WE SURPRISED??)
It wasn’t as busy as the last time I was there, but I was really glad to be back. As I headed in, I was instantly greeted by all the friendly vendors. I chatted with some people, grabbed my juice and crossed the street to HubSpace, where the other half of the market was going on.
After spending some time downtown, I went to the Roller Dome to check out the Kids Market!
This event was really cool. The majority of the booths there were run by kids, either fundraising for different organizations or pocketing the cash they collected.
I was able to talk to everyone there, and see what they were selling. I was really impressed with Keziya’s booth; she makes her own bath salts!
While I was there, I got to learn so much from the young vendors and I cannot wait to see where these young entrepreneurs go!
Like I said at the beginning, there were a lot of craft fairs and markets going on. After the Kids Market, I headed over to the DP Todd Craft Fair.
So… this was my first time going to the DP Todd Craft Fair. I didn’t know what to expect, but I was extremely impressed with what was there!
This whole craft fair is a big fundraiser for the school’s amazing band program . (Seriously, they’re amazing!) Many band students were there helping out. As I have in the past, I met some amazing vendors whom I will most likely be seeing at upcoming craft fairs! (There are a lot more coming!)
I ended the day at the Jumpy Kids Fun Day at the Connaught Youth Centre. This was A LOT of fun! There were so many kids running around having a BLAST.
I met Ryan and Grayson who wanted to help me get pictures. They did not disappoint! They were running around the gym with the signs trying to get kids to take pictures with them. It was very cute and I’m super appreciative of their help!
Sunday
It was very cold; and I made the very dumb decision to wear capris and low-cut Converse. My legs survived, but my feet didn’t. After many years of skating and racing outside in -30º weather, my toes are very fragile and get cold very easily. Time to pull out the wool socks…
ANYWAYS….
I went back to the Connaught Youth Centre to see how much fun the kids were having today.
I got there, and it was PACKED! So many kids were running around and having a great time. For a quick second, I missed being a kid and getting to have fun like that.
I grabbed some pictures, talked to some awesome people, and then made my way out to Ferndale for their craft fair.
I’ve never been on the Upper Fraser Road. This was my first time heading that way.
When I was driving out there, I started to get really sad. The sky was so beautiful and the sun was shining on the snow… and Calgary was calling my name.
You must be wondering… Sylvia, why was Calgary calling your name? What has this got to do with ANYTHING???
Well, for a huge chunk of my life, I was a speed skater. I had my whole life planned out; I was going to graduate high school, go to the University of Calgary, skate in their Oval Program and be on the top of the podium at the Olympics. That was my goal in skating and life. Until I quit. I had enough. I didn’t want to do it anymore. For the longest time, I didn’t think about skating, but now, I think about it all the time and heading out east, reminded me of all the times my mom and I would drive to Calgary for competitions. I know for a fact I won’t be going back to competing, I just miss the adrenaline rush during every race and all my friends.
OKAY, MOVING ON!
The drive out to Ferndale was amazing. I couldn’t get over how beautiful it was and how stunning the day was!
When I got there, I was in complete awe at how cozy the community centre was and how friendly all the vendors were! I felt very welcomed.
There were so many cool vendors there: handmade soaps, jewelry, clocks and jewelry being made out of recycled bicycle parts, and so much more! I had a blast out there and I hope to see most of them again soon!
I walked around, took pictures, talked to almost everyone and headed back into town. It started to get cloudy, but I was still in awe about how nice the drive was on the way out, that I didn’t let the clouds bother me!
Have a good week everyone, see you next weekend 😉
