Okay, so the fun for me this weekend actually didn’t start on the weekend… it started on Friday night. NO, I did not go to a wild party or anything like that (lets face it, we all know I don’t have time for that), I went to the UNBC basketball home opener game, to cheer for the other team. Yup, I was cheering for UVic for both the men and women’s games.
You must be wondering why I was being a traitor to my school… my childhood best friend was playing for the girls team, and a family friend, who is like an older brother to me, was playing for the men’s team. So I had to cheer for them, okay??
Anyways, the women’s game was really good. The score was constantly going back and forth between UNBC and UVic, but UVic broke away in overtime.
I can’t say anything for the men’s game. I left. I went and had dinner with my friend from UVic because we hadn’t hung out in three years. It was worth it. Very much worth it. I heard UNBC won that game.
Saturday
I had to drive all the way down the Blackwater. Like 3km before it’s no longer a paved road distance. I forgot how long it was. I haven’t driven down that way in… well ever. The last time I went that far, I didn’t have my license so it was actually my dad driving and we drove down the Blackwater three ish years ago. I think. I can’t remember.
The point of going down Blackwater Road was to go to a pumpkin shoot, hosted by the PG Rod and Gun Club. I was a little nervous to go because I had never shot a gun before, and that was exactly what I was doing.
When I got there, I was instantly welcomed by everyone and the Club President, Andrew, who showed me how to shoot.
It was nerve wracking. It was scary. I had so many emotions run through me the moment I held the gun. But, it was also really cool and a huge adrenaline rush.
I got to shoot a bunch of different types of guns, but my favourite was the revolver. I shot and hit a bunch of pumpkins and I shot and missed a bunch of pumpkins.
I was there for about two hours, learning about the different types of guns and learning how to shoot. This is something that I would never do on my own, but I’m glad I went out and gave it a try. It was worth it!
I left, and was planning on heading to XConditioning for their competition. Until… I realized right before I turned onto the highway that I left my bag at the shooting range. So, I had to turn around and drive back to grab it. I didn’t mind; it’s very beautiful out there.
Once I got my bag, I headed down to the gym.
They were hosting their Northern Powerlifting Classic and it was crazy! So many records were being smashed.
My favourite part was seeing Tara Webber, who is the newly crowned Strongest Women in the World! How cool is that? Congrats, Tara!
After, I stopped by Magic Wash because the Jeep was REALLY dirty (blame the Blackwater Road, not me!!) and then I went to one of my favourite events in town…
STUDIO FAIR!!!!!!!!
I love Studio Fair. I have since I was like 3.
It was packed when I walked in. One of the first people I saw when I was there was my younger sister! After saying hi, I went and explored the Civic Centre to see what was being sold.
I SAW SO MANY COOL THINGS! There was potery, food, art, jewelry, and my favourite…
Can you guess?
They are my obsession…
If you can’t remember, read last week’s blog.
Got it?
Figured it out?
No, not yet?
Fine. I’ll tell you…
Col Juicery!
I love them so much and I was able to get my absolute fav (the Charcoal Lemonade), to boost my energy for my last event of the day.
I headed upstairs to check out what was up there. I saw a lot of vendors who I’ve met over the past couple of weeks, which was super cool.
One of my favourite things to see was Elmer Gunderson was letting kids help carve a polar bear. I think it’s so cool that a bunch of kids got to take part in the creation of something so beautiful!
I spent a bit more time at Studio Fair before calling it a day, and then went up to UNBC for night 2 of the basketball games.
I was cheering for the wrong teams again…
And they both won 😉
Sunday
I started the day off at Studio Fair again…
I ran into one of my best friends, Kiersten. She and her dad were just leaving. They stayed for a bit longer, a we all got to enjoy some delicious Tire! (The maple syrup on the stick)
It was great! Except… I got a bunch in my hair, which was not super fun, and every time I pulled my hair back it kept getting stuck in my fingers because I still had dried syrup in my hair.
Ugh. The struggle of having long hair.
I walked around the Civic Centre for a bit and had THE BEST lemon square IN THE WORLD.
Like my mind stopped for a bit because my mind was blown. It was SO GOOD.
After Studio Fair, I headed up to St. Mary’s Elementary School for their craft fair.
I was instantly greeted by the smell of DELICIOUS food. It was amazing.
After getting some lunch (thanks Ron!), I walked around and checked out the different vendors.
The highlight?
The Harry Potter wands.
They looked identical to the ones used in the movies and are all handmade In fact, he was painting Elder Wands when I was there.
I learned how to duel properly and then we had a bit of a duel. It was a riot! Everyone who was watching us were having a great weekend.
See you next week PG,
Sylvia
