Hey everyone! I hope you had a great week and a relaxing weekend where you got to enjoy some of the nice weather! I had a busy, but fun one!
Saturday
The start to my day was a little chaotic, to be honest; BUT it didn’t take long for everything to fall into its place. Once that happened, things went well.
I started my day at the Artisans of the North Craft Fair and Discovery Day at UNBC. Now, let me tell you: I usually don’t like spending my weekends at school and try to avoid doing so; but this weekend was an exception, and was very much worth it. I even made sure to wear my UNBC hoodie!
The school was PACKED. I have never seen it that full and I’m there almost everyday. There were so many vendors selling some beautiful hand crafted items. I couldn’t get much of a look of them because there were SO MANY people and I did not want to be the one holding up traffic.
I made my way over to Building 10 for the UNBC Discovery Day. On an average day, it would take me 3-5 minutes to get over there. Today, it took 15 minutes. Discovery Day is meant to show high school students what UNBC is all about; they get swag bags, to sit through mock lectures (I low-key crashed one) and get a tour of the campus. It’s a super cool day, and I wish I participated in it last year.
ANYWAYS, I’m pretty sure I made one of the host’s day by telling him how he was the reason that I met one of my best friends. (It’s a long story, but she moved from Ontario last year to come to UNBC!) It was pretty funny!
After, I took some pictures, saw my geography prof who now knows I’m the FunChaser (hopefully he doesn’t mention anything tomorrow *fingers crossed*), and went back to the craft fair. Oh, and I crashed a lecture that was about to start. (Don’t worry, I know the prof).
When I got back into the hustle and bustle of the craft fair, I HAD to stop by Col Juicery.
Almost once a week, I grab a juice from them because THEY ARE SO GOOD. I highly recommend trying their juices and all the ladies who work there are the sweetest. Fun fact, one of them was one of the first people I talked to on my first day of FunChasing. I told her how nervous I was about it being my first day all by myself (as she was giving me samples, starting my addiction to their juices). I saw her again this weekend, and don’t worry! I was not nervous to go out and chase fun!
I walked around a little more, and then I headed off to The Final Stop. (And like last week, it was not my final stop of the day)
The museum was way busier than it was last week, and there were so many cute kids in costumes!
I walked around a bit, got some pictures and even ran into one of my favourite teachers… again! (This is the third weekend in a row, hehe!)
My favourite part was seeing all the non-perishable food items that had been donated for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. It was really cool seeing a massive pile in the museum.
After The Final Stop, I headed over to AimHi for the Loonie Auction.
This was a really cool event. All you had to do was buy a ticket for a loonie and then you could put that ticket into a draw bag of your choice. There was SO MUCH to choose from! Spruce Kings tickets, restaurant GCs and so much more. It was really cool. And all the proceeds went to Handy Circle PG, which made the event, even cooler.
After hanging around there for a bit, I was ready to head back to the station…
BUT THEN
I was driving down Rainbow Drive and saw a bunch of people in the middle of the field between AimHi and Lac des Bois. I wondered what was going on for a nano second and then it hit me…
SPECIAL OLYMPICS SNOWSHOEING!!!!
I had to stop by. I just had to. So I parked the Jeep, jumped the fence and ran to some of my favourite people in the world.
They were all so excited to see me, and I was so excited to see them! They all got some SunRype snacks and some pictures. It was 110% the highlight of my day!
Later that night, I went to the scary tours of The Final Stop with two friends. It was so worth ruining my feet even more from the cold. The three of us ended up leading the way for the whole tour… it was something. I don’t think I’ve ever screamed so much.
The Railway and Forestry Museum did a good job at scaring us all!
Sunday
My day started at the Loonie Auction. They were really pleased that I came back. I had the BEST conversation with this lady named Stephanie; she truly made my day. We laughed so hard together, as she was telling me stories of all the mutual friends we have and especially when she told me one of my dad’s friends is very… peculiar!
When I walked out of AimHi, I was instantly greeted by a warm sun. It was so nice outside!! I hope that many of you were able to go spend some time outside and enjoy the sun. To be honest, I was a little surprised we still got decent weather after all this rain, haha!
I made a quick stop at Save-On-Foods to check out the food-drive that was going on, hosted by NUGSS (Northern Undergraduate Student Society). They were collecting food for their food bank up at the university! They want to ensure that students who are studying at the university don’t go long hours without eating during their studies. As a student, I think this is an amazing initiative!
After, I went up to UNBC to check out day 2 of the Artisans of the North Craft Fair. It wasn’t as packed as yesterday, so I was able to check out the tables a little better!
Before I did *a ton* of exploring, I had to grab another juice from the Col table, because those juices are my obsession!
After, I started exploring the craft fair some more and realized that there was a whole other section to the craft fair in the admin building!
I was shocked, but also excited because there were a dozen booths I hadn’t checked out yet! They were great, just like all the others! I got to talk to some really nice people, who I will be seeing at future craft fairs.
Have a great week everyone, and see you all next weekend 😉
