Please note that this was supposed to be posted a week ago. But something terrible and no fun came up…
(wait for it…)
….
MIDTERMS.
Sorry it’s late, but here you go!
Now, if you’re reading this and have no idea what Rock the Rink is, it’s a figure skating show with top-notch figure skaters like Tessa and Scott, Patrick Chan, Elvis Stojko and Kaetlyn Osmond. And if you did not go, you really missed out. It was amazing.
How to describe something that left you speechless? I’ve sat here for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to write about Rock the Rink. Seriously. That show was AMAZING. So, I have decided to share my favourite pictures with you and I encourage you to look up videos on YouTube because I can’t do the show any justice if I try and explain it.
The evening started out with a live band, Birds of Bellwoods. They were loads fun and got the whole crowd pumped and ready for the figure skating show. During the intermission, my sister and I went to go meet the band!
They were super nice. We then headed to our seats and waited for the show to start.
I really don’t know how to explain the show. It was beautiful, exciting, funny and left you on the edge of your seat the whole time.
The show started with all the skaters coming out. This performance really set the mood for the whole show. Fun and energetic. (Two of my favourite words!)
Jeremy was really fun to watch. He was doing backflips on ice and had the whole crowd at the edge of their seats!
Elvis Stojko came on and impressed everyone with his skating and the fact that he’s 47 and still doing flips on on ice, in skates. He had some AC/DC blasting during his program, which I think every dad there appreciated.
Patrick Chan was fun because he put SO MUCH energy into his performance and would even interact with the crowd, and get them engaged too.
Kaetlyn Osmond was probably my favourite. The vibe she gave off when she was skating was incredible and she always had a big smile on her face.
Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov were a fun pair to watch, having grace and elegance in their skating. Having been a speed skater for the majority of my life, grace and elegance were never there when I was on the ice. Which I guess makes sense, but I still envy them for making their skating so effortless hehehe.
Tessa and Scott. The two skaters that everyone wanted to see. They were out a lot with everyone, and just the two of them. They were stunning and beautiful and after seeing them live, I can fully understand the hype around them. They brought so much energy into the show, but also A LOT of tears. They put many of their old programs into one program as their official “farewell” to their fans.
One of my favourite parts of the whole show was the watching Darlene skate, a Special Olympic Athlete they had as one of the performers. Darlene did an amazing job skating and really proved that anyone can do anything. As a coach for Special Olympics, I was really pleased to see this inclusion in a cross-country tour!
I unfortunately don’t have any pictures of Carolina Kostner, but her skating was amazing, and she did an amazing job!
Rock the Rink was a night I will remember for a long time! If you want to see more pictures check out ckpgfunchaser on Instagram and Facebook to find more pictures!
