I think we can all agree that the weather this weekend, was amazing. A little cold at times but fall was definitely in the air and I was loving it. It was the PERFECT weather to chase some fun in the community… let’s begin!
Saturday
I started the day off at the Prince George Farmers Market, the place where everyone is ALWAYS smiling, even when it’s freezing. I ran into some people that I know, tried a purple tomato (they’re way better than the red ones) and had a delicious gingersnap cookie. Like seriously, it was AMAZING!
After, I headed up to Canadian Tire to check out the street curling event. When I got up there, I was instantly greeted by Glen and the other volunteers who were there helping run the event. I got to talk to all of them, try some curling and learn more about the curling event that is coming to town in March!
After hanging out there for a bit, I headed down to Shhhh Gifts to check out the Luv 4 Paws meet and greet.
Remember Andrea from my first week of FunChasing? (I know, it was a while ago. I wasn’t even a university student yet!) She was hosting the meet and greet to get community awareness about her organization! It was great; she had kittens and puppies for everyone to see and cuddle with, and possibly one day adopt!
When I was there, I also got to meet Ava. For her 10th birthday, instead of gifts, she asked for donations for Luv 4 Paws! What she got, was absolutely incredible and will go a long way for the organization. Ava, if you see this, you really are a star! Thank you for having a big heart, and for being so caring of others around you.
After spending some more time with the kittens and puppies, I drove out to Huble Homestead for their Scavenger Hunt. Now… I have another terrible thing to admit… This was my first time ever going out there!
When I was driving down the road, I was driving by cars and they were giving me weird looks. I was a little confused and worried, but when I got there, I understood why.
A wedding had just finished; And those people I drove by were all probably wondering why the FunChaser was going to the wedding…
BUT! I wasn’t going to a wedding (or crashing one), I was going to a scavenger hunt!
It was an amazing drive out there, with the bright blue sky and colourful leaves.
I got there a little late, so lots of people had already completed the hunt. But, I was able to help in a human pyramid and see a little snake, so that was cool! I even got to walk around the homestead and explore it a little. I will definitely be going back!
I finished the day at the Luv 4 Paws Meet and Greet. There were more puppies for everyone to meet and A LOT more donations that came through! It was really great to see all the community support and lots of people interested in adopting the cats and dogs!
Sunday
I started out the day cold. It was freezing outside! When I sort of warmed up, I headed to Moore’s Meadow.
In the morning, over 150 scrubs and trees were planted at the front of the park by TD Bank and other helpers! It was great and all the little trees look great!
After checking out the tree planting, I headed over to CN Centre for the Salvation Army Toy Run.
This event was awesome. All the motorcyclists were super excited to ride and the donation bins for the toys were getting super full with toys for kids in need.
I was shaking when the hundreds of motorcyclists left the parking lot. It was so cool seeing them all leave, for an amazing cause!
After hanging out there for a bit, I headed to the Small Business Fair at the Roll-A-Dome! Lots of the vendors were telling me it wasn’t as busy as usual and I think the weather was to blame. Sunday was amazing!
There was a lot of cool stuff in the Dome and I got to meet some really neat people; and run into some familiar faces!
When I left the Small Business Fair, I was contemplating to go to the public skate at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena or go to a park. I chose skating and I am sure glad I did!
I was a little surprised at how busy it was, considering the beautiful weather but, I was also excited that there were so many people skating.
I had a really nice time getting to skate some laps around the arena and watching little kids learn how to skate. I learned how to skate at these public skates 16 years ago! I did however, feel a little awkward with my 16.5″ blades… they are a little longer compared to everyone else’s, haha!
After skating, I made the last minute decision to go to Connaught Hill Park. I was in the area, so why not, right?
I’m really glad I went up there, because it was BEAUTIFUL. The sun was shining and so many trees were glowing. It was the best way to end a super busy weekend!
Until next weekend PG,
Syl, the FunChaser
