Okay, I know you MUST be wondering what Bryan Adams has to do with this weekend, but I’ll be honest, he played a *CRUCIAL* role in how my week went.
I will take you all the way back to Monday and explain…
I was sitting in the CANFOR Theatre at UNBC. I was in my Political Science Lecture and my prof was discussing the influence the American media has on Canadians. He had a slide up with some pictures of American TV shows and then a picture of Drake and Bryan Adams at the bottom. He says: “Now here’s Drake and can anyone tell me who the guy is on the bottom left?” I instantly blurted out “It’s Bryan Adams.” My prof was shocked. Somebody actually knew who he was; he told us everyone knows who Drake is, but never Bryan Adams. I was actually very proud of myself that that was the first thing I’ve said in that class.
So, that is the start on how Bryan Adams became involved in my week, and helped make it a great one.
The following day, I bought a CD stand at the VV Boutique (yes I still buy CDs) and I discovered that I have over a dozen Bryan Adams CDs. Boom, he appeared again. And yes, I really am a big fan of Bryan Adams. Reckless was one of my first CDs I ever bought.
Now. Back to the weekend. Where Bryan Adams kept showing up.
Saturday
I started the week off at the Wilson’s Square Farmers Market! It was cold and rainy, but everyone was SO friendly and welcoming. I learned a lot about the local vendors and the businesses they run. Most of them will be downtown next weekend for the Fallfest, so I highly recommend to say hi and check out the goods they have! While I was there, I ran into my Grade 7 teacher and Veronica!
After, I went up to the gun show at the Roll-a-Dome. Not going to lie, I was a little nervous going in, because I had never been to a gun show. BUT, those nerves instantly disappeared when I saw one of my Special O athletes, Danny! His parents organize the show, and even showed me around 🙂
I had a blast at the Gun Show. I met some really cool people, learned a bit about hunting rifles and saw some beautiful handmade creations.
Before my next event, I had 30 minutes to kill and I was hungry. I drove to Domino’s and grabbed a very delicious pizza (happy belated birthday, btw). The pizza was great! After, I headed to the Public Library for Ferret Frenzies.
Now, I was REALLY looking forward to this event. Like really looking forward to it. I was going to learn about ferrets AND hang out with them. As Hannah Montana said: it’s the best of both worlds.
BUT!
Be prepared. I have sad news…
When I got there, I ran into some people I know (are we surprised???) and they told me the following:
It’s been cancelled.
CANCELLED! I was so bummed, but also understood why because it was raining cats and dogs.
After, I headed to the grand-opening of Earth & Crown, a new consignment store in town!
Let me tell you: THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! I highly recommend checking them out; they’re above Books & Co. and are open Thursday to Saturday!
(Would you be surprised if I told you that I coached both of the owners’ kids??) Probably not. I’ve determined that I know a lot of people. Maybe too many people?
After, I drove around town for a bit and you’re not going to believe who I heard on the radio… BRYAN ADAMS! What??? It was also Summer of ’69 which is one of my favourite songs.
Sunday
Today was the day of my favourite event…. The Terry Fox Run!!
I’ve been doing this run every year since I was 3 months old. It has become a huge family tradition and I was really excited to be apart of the event as the FunChaser.
Like always, I saw people that I knew. I saw my good friend Dick, kids I coached in track and my favourite people in the world… my parents and sister!
In total, there were about 350 people who came to support the legacy of an amazing Canadian. It was awesome! We did a big group warmup, after speeches, and then everyone was off!
I would like to give a BIG shout out to the PG Spruce Kings who came, after playing games for the past two nights, the volunteers who made this possible, and Ryley Newman, the new organizer of the run. It was really well done!
Now… can you guess who was playing on the radio at the end of the day?? Yeah, you probably guessed it. And as I’m writing this, I’m listening to the This Is: Bryan Adams playlist on Spotify. (Great playlist, by the way)
See? He did play a role in my week and weekend!
Thanks for the fun weekend everyone, see you next week!
Syl, the FunChaser
