Holy moly, was that like the busiest Saturday in all of Prince George history or what?! My day started bright and early when I arrived at the REAPS Earth Day Celebration on 6th Avenue just behind city hall. At 9:30 the traditional aboriginal salmon mural was revealed, and it was absolutely studding. We even got to enjoy some ceremonial drumming to celebrate the new art installment. Then, I got to chat with a lovely little girl who is 101.3 The River’s biggest fan (she is self titled, but her mom agreed). Then from 11-2PM I was live on location for the river. This event was an absolute blast and had amazing energy. There were kids crafts which included making your own pet rock (see mine below, his name is Norton), tons of vendors offering tips for how you can make your life a little greener, gardening workshops, fresh pressed juice, local produce and meat vendors and even Frozen Paddle Ice Cream who kindly hooked me up with the most amazing scoop of London Fog. Between call ins I got to chat with the community and hand out Sunripe juice boxes and granola bars, and who doesn’t love a juice box!? Make sure to check out the FunChaser Facebook page for some posts about the event, and even a video of the art unveiling. this was the first outdoor farmers market of the year, with many more to come! So if you couldn’t make it out today, make sure to head over next Saturday.
Once the market was over at 3, I went over to the Roll-A-Done to check out the national roller derby. Teams traveled far and wide to participate in the competition, and this stuff was rough! I have so much respect for this sport, and the women who participate. It’s happening tomorrow from 8Am to 11:30AM, so head over to watch and support!
Then, as if this wasn’t enough, I headed over to the Cut Banks where they had people climbing up and down the steep hill to raise money for cancer research. One guy even did it 20 times! CRAZY.
That was a big day ladies and gents, and tomorrow will be no different! Don’t forget that the salmon release is happening at Cottonwood Island Park at 11AM, Bosley’s is having their parking lot pet celebration, and the home show is where I’ll be! So come by, say hi, and enjoy all these wonderful events that Prince George has to offer!
Sincerely,
Your FunChaser
