The UNBC Timberwolves men’s soccer team was in action today against the University of Winnipeg at the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League Fields.
The game was an intense 90 minutes that was back and forth the entire game, but the hometown boys in the green and white held better possession for longer periods of times.
The first goal of the game was scored by the Timberwolves off of a floating header inside the box. The momentum that the T-Wolves had carried through the half had finally paid off.
The first half saw an ugly collision between a UNBC player and the Winnipeg goalie. Both men were okay, but visibly physically rattled.
The Timberwolves momentum was short lived though as Winnipeg managed to find the onion bag on a nice strike to tie the game up, and that is how the first half came to a close.
In a game where UNBC was extremely energetic, the pace of the game was matched by Winnipeg, as they were able to make transitions up the field very quickly, which had the home team on its heels a little bit.
Despite the visitors finding an answer for most of the offense being brought forward, UNBC was able to ripple the mesh in the latter half of the second on a quite scrambly play and pull forward with a 2-1 lead. The goal wasn’t pretty, but it all looks the same on the score board.
There were a few more chances for Winnipeg but nothing that equalled a goal, as UNBC picked up their much needed second win on the season!
