This is the time of year where things get stressful for players, coaches, and parents, but also exciting for the fans who have been waiting months. That’s right, hockey is back on the ice for the WHL Prince George Cougars, and the BCHL Spruce Kings!
For some kids it’s the first time being under this type of pressure, attempting to make a junior hockey club, where they have to continuously bring their A game to be considered for the squad. Where some arrive at camp knowing what to expect, with a few seasons under their belt, and a little less pressure lying on their shoulder.
The Prince George Cougars had a successful season, but an unfortunate departure from the season. They played well enough to snag a playoff spot, but abruptly lost 4 straight games against the powerhouse Seattle Thunderbirds. They head into the season with high expectations but some holes to fill. 2015/16 saw a breakout season from Chase Witala who is now in the AHL, and a new head coach in Stanley Cup winner Richard Matvichuk will lead the helm of the Cougars. Plenty to look forward to from the Prince George WHL crew!
PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS TRAINING CAMP SCHEDULE
As for the Prince George Spruce Kings, they had an unfortunately less than impressive season. A season that saw their captain Jake LeBrun suffer a collarbone injury, and later get traded to the eventual Fred Page, Western Canada, and RBC Cup Champion West Kelowna Warriors. They look for a better 2016 season all around and their camp is underway this weekend, I had the chance to hang out with the voice of the Prince George Spruce Kings, Ryan Lepper to talk about the camp and some returning players and it’s going to be a fun year for the Kings!
