The 6th Annual Doug Paquette Memorial Charity BBQ was a definitive success!
Doug Paquette is the brother of Todd, who works for SunLife financial, and does great for Spread The Sunshine. Doug unfortunately passed away a few years ago, and Todd wanted to raise funds in the name of his brother. That’s where the kind work by Spread The Sunshine comes in, as they dedicate fundraising efforts to a person or family who is in need of help.
This month Spread The Sunshine dedicated their efforts to Team Tracy. Tracy Fowler-Ceperley has been battling cancer off and on for the past ten years, reason being a genetic growth in her body that allows the cancerous disease to keep coming back. Tracy is looking to receive specific treatment to deter the gene from returning, and that treatment can only be received in Los Angeles. The money not only goes towards treatment, but to help support her and her family.
This year’s BBQ was set outside Canadian Tire in College Heights, and what a successful spot it was. With it being a weekend, there was plenty of people heading to Canadian Tire to run errands, and there was also a handful of people who heard about the charity event on The River or The Drive urging people to help however they can!
We had a variety of food for people to choose from, which included footlong hot dogs, smokies, and hamburgers from Rogers Meats! There wasn’t enough bun for the monstrous foot long tube steaks, and Todd’s pickled asparagus flew out of the container as per his recommendation to put it on the hot dog!
Plenty of people stopped by for food, or even to just give money to go towards Team Tracy and her trek towards terminating that cancerous cell! Tracy even stopped by with her daughter Laura, her dog Amber, as well as one of her friends. They were extremely pleased by the support of people from Prince George, seeing how many people were visiting the BBQ as well as the monetary result in the cash box from the days hard work. Thinking about the glowing smiles put on her and her daughter’s face are bringing a tear to my eye thinking about how charmed they felt in that moment.
There is no total of what was made during the annual BBQ, but it was definitely a major amount of funds raised. If you want to continue to support Team Tracy, find Team Tracy on Facebook!
