Taking the plunge on Valentines Day , one would expect I was talking about marriage (thankfully not) although jumping in Icy water might seem very akin to it , to the uninitiated like me. When Kharah Black heard that there was going to be a Polar Bear Dip, she hurriedly rounded everyone willing to go . She even made us super awesome capes, that we weren’t allowed to wear into the water, for safety reasons. As Tyler, Lucas (interns) Dan Johnson (writer , comedic genius and hider of truck keys) and I headed out in the FunChaser Truck, we all pondered what we had gotten ourselves into. Upon arrival at Ness Lake Bible Camp we found Chris Gailus would be joining us in the water. While squire Barns, Kritsti Gordon would spectate, and cheer us on. As we got the debriefing from Dave Horton, the excitement/dread grew. Then it was time to walk down to the lake, where they had cut with chainsaws a lovely hole for us to ease into, or hop into. First Chris Gailus went in, then I followed suit, and yes it was a little chilly. Dave was very correct in saying the less clothing you where the better as the clothes hold onto the frigid water. After we had all taken the plunge, we hurried back to the lodge to a warm lunch, and a quick photo op. If you plan on doing the Polar Bear Dip on new years, all I can say is do. For more information on Ness Lake Bible camp, and all the the great stuff they do go here.
