What a weekend! It’s that time of year where weekends get busy with sports. Saturday was spent in hockey rinks and out on the soccer field! The Prince George Cougars kicked off their training camp on Friday at the CN Centre and play their free Black and White game tonight and then continue into the regular season come September. The Sprucekings trained in the Rolling Mix Concrete areana all weekend and got back into the groove before their season begins. The UNBC men’s soccer team played their first game of the season against Thompson River and tied their second game 1-1. The boys take to the fields again this Friday and Saturday against Trinity Western.
As if that wasn’t enough sports, I spent all day Sunday out at Alder Hills Golf Course for the 6th annual BC Children’s Hospital Golf Tournament in memory of Mike Harrington. The event was sponsored by many, but Save-On foods provided food and beverages in memory of one of their managers Mike Harrington who has passed away. He was a huge supporter of BC Children’s hospital and since then, the partnership has hosted the tournament every year. It was my first day golfing and we had a great time. Children’s holds a special place in my heart as that was where I had a major back surgery five years ago that single handedly changed my life forever. Their specialists made it so I didn’t have to live my life in pain and possibly end up in a wheelchair. Every day I’m grateful for what they did for me, and I was happy to help in the fundraising efforts.
Saturday was also Dollar Days at Northland Dodge and to celebrate they had free brisket sandwiches, snacks, kid’s activities and they even gave away a 2013 Dodge grand Caravan! Congratulations to Toni, who also listens to 101.3 The River! Enjoy your new ride.
As I mentioned, tonight is the PG Cougars first game. I’m the new in-stand host for the team and will be heading up to CN Centre tonight for my first game. I hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Your Funchaser
