Today saw the 10th Annual Prince George JDRF Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes at College Heights Secondary School
Thousands of Canadians walk, share stories, and connect across Canada to fight against, and raise critical funds for type one diabetes research.
Type 1 Diabetes occurs when the pancreas stops producing insulin – the hormone enabling people to get energy from food.
Many families have the task of monitoring their loved ones every breath, and every bite because it all matters so much. Hundreds in Prince George gathered today to make type one, type none!
I spoke with a mother briefly about how she has dealt with her son’s diabetes, she was proud to be there with her family and proud to support JDRF. The words she shared with me hit very hard as her son is two years old and has dealt with it very positively, but living with this is all he knows. That is why these events are so important, to come together with other families knowing what it is like to sacrifice so much for your loved ones, to give them a life they deserve, and I give a huge thank you and kudos to those parents that have to deal with this added pressure of parenthood.
This is their son, getting his face painted enjoying the Walk to Cure Diabetes! 🙂
It was a sea of green on the field as everyone at the event received a Telus Walk t-shirt to form unity at the event!
Before the walk started there were games that the children could partake in, where they could win themselves prizes, there was a team warm up led by a Crossfit trainer, and off they all went!
The event to try to build on research, and cure diabetes received an amazing $6,800 donation from SunLife Financial in Prince George! That amount is aside from the final tally of donations yet to be determined. There was an event prize given to the biggest non-corporate donors, which was a fantastic $6,000!
