“You can’t really call something an annual thing until it’s second year running”-Jessica Rankin from the River Wake Up
This year was the second in a row the Prince George Jim Pattison Broadcast Group held April Food’s Day and to say that it was a success is a major understatement.
The connotation around April 1st is the day of jokes and hilarity. We decided last year that we wanted to put a new spin on the opening day of April.
Enter April Food’s Day.
This year was no different as we partnered with Save On Foods and the Salvation Army to help collect food and supplies for those in need.
With last year being the first of it’s kind, the donations were extremely helpful, but if you are comparing it to this year, that load is an appetizer sample. The call was answered by the city of Prince George as we loaded the FunChaser vehicle outside the Spruceland Save On Foods location all day long receiving bags upon bags worth of items. Whether it was a box of cereal or a flat of soup, every item added to our impressive end result. We were fortunate enough to receive donations from kind people who dropped off entire buggies worth of items and needed no thanks for their kind deed.
A huge shout out goes to Shoppers Drug Mart in the Spruceland shopping centre as a group of amazing employees came by with 3 buggies full of their merchandise!
Even some of our staff were taken care of as Quiznos heard about what we were doing and dropped off some sandwiches!
This is not about us at Jim Pattison though, this is about the amazing, gracious effort put forth by Prince George as we collected a tonne of food; that’s no joke.
Over the span of 8 hours at the Save On Foods location, from the generous donations we collected TWO THOUSAND pounds of food! The weight of food we gathered is the equivalent to a wild buffalo!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
Not only do we appreciate your generosity, but the Salvation Army of Prince George does as well
We cannot wait to continue this great event next year!
